A few days ago we took part in the first of the “Taste Cyprus” Food Tours organized by the “Let’s Speak Cap” campaign, and we had an amazing day trying local food and wine and learning about agriculture and rural areas in Cyprus and the support of the Common Agricultural Policy! Our tour began at the Archontiko Kiverniti hotel in Lefkara where we had a tasty breakfast with traditional Cypriot products and spoke with the owner of the hotel, who told us how they were able to create their hotel with the support of the Cyprus Rural Development Programme, co-financed by the EU. Next we had a tour of the vineyards of the Domes Sergiou winery, discussing the work that goes into the vineyards, the difficulties winegrowers face and the support of the CAP. For our final stop we headed to the Domes Sergiou Winery, where we tried a selection of their wines along with a light food pairing using local products and seasonal ingredients over a discussion about agriculture and the wine sector in general.
